🍤 Gambas Pil Pil That Skelps Then Sings

Cooked Fast. Eaten Faster.

🍴 Heads Up

This one’s fast and furious — so get everything prepped before the heat’s on. Garlic burns quicker than Boab burns through a pint voucher. Once yer pan’s hot, there’s nae time for faffin’.

🍛 What Ye’ll Need

  • 300g raw king prawns
  • 5 tbsp olive oil
  • 6 garlic cloves (thinly sliced, nae faff)
  • 3 red chillies (sliced or whole — yer choice, ya madman)
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Small bunch fresh parsley (chopped)
  • Crusty bread, for scoopin’ and moppin’

📜 Curry Credentials

  • “Pil Pil” means “sizzle sizzle” in Spanish — and that’s exactly how this dish announces itself.
  • Traditionally served in a hot clay dish, it’s designed tae be shared — but Davie usually forgets that bit.
  • Part o’ the Tavern Tapas Series — more comin’ soon, if Sandra doesn’t ban garlic again.

1. Prawn Patrol 🍤

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 300g king prawns

🔥 How tae dae it

Heat oil in a pan. Toss in the prawns and cook quick — 1–2 minutes each side. They’ll curl up like Boab hearing the word “strategy.” Once pink and proud, remove them fae the pan and set aside.

2. The Garlic Gauntlet

  • 4 tbsp oil
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1–2 chillies

🔥 How tae dae it

Add more oil tae the same pan. Heat gentle — no burnin’. In wi’ yer garlic and chillies. Fry slow till the garlic just starts tae turn golden — if it’s dark brown, ye’ve gone too far and Davie will disown ye.

3. Paprika Pop

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

🔥 How tae dae it

Sprinkle in the paprika — quick stir! Don’t let it clump or scorch. Ye should smell that warm, smoky hug instantly.

4. Return of the Prawns

  • Cooked prawns (from earlier)

🔥 How tae dae it

Back in wi’ the prawns. Coat them in all that garlicky chilli glory. Heat for a final 30 seconds. They should be dancin’ in the oil like Pixel on pie day.

5. Parsley Parade & Plate Up 🌿

  • Fresh parsley
  • Bread (optional but strongly recommended)

🔥 How tae dae it

Scatter the parsley like a wizard’s last spell. Serve immediately in a hot dish or wee pan — still sizzlin’ if possible. Sling some bread on the side tae mop it up like Boab clearin’ debt.
